FROZEN RIVER TREK - CHADAR

"Chadar" means blanket or veil of ice that covers the Zanskar River over the winters. This expedition style challenging trek takes one to the remote Zanskar valley which can only be penetrated in the long harsh winter months by walking on the “Chadar”- the frozen Zanskar River through the incredible Zanskar gorge with its stunning scenery and landscape. The rocks beneath the icy blue green water and ice and snow above make it look like artist’s work. The brilliant blue skies high above stand out against the brown hues of the narrow Zanskar gorge.

This trip is truly one of the world’s greatest adventure as you trek along the traditional Zanskari winter route meeting the locals and children going to School in Leh. You also get to visit the villages and stay in homes thus getting an insight into the lives of the simple Zanskari folk during the hostile winter period. The harsh climatic conditions (minus 30 c) make this trip even harder as you shuffle along the frozen river and sometime have to even wade through the icy waters or scramble over cliffs.

This trip promises to be a “Lifetime’s Adventure Trip” and a must for those who yearn to do a unique challenging expedition style adventure.

LEARN TO FLY - Paragliding Course for Novice & Beginners

5 Days Paragliding & Adventure Camp for Novice & Beginners

Objective:
The main aim of this programme is to introduce participants to paragliding as a sport and train them upto P1+P2 level.

Possible Action:
The paragliding site is ideal for beginners to the sport and the surrounding forested hills offer exciting possibilities for short treks, over night camps in the jungle and mountain bicycling trails and other fun based activities like aeromodelling and stunt kite flying.

Location:
In the Goluchina region close to Maikhali Village in Ranikhet. The campsite is located in the village itself overlooking the valley floor. Various kinds of accommodation possibilities include stay in American Safari Tents, smaller trekking tents or in an old stone village house.

Distances:
New Delhi - Paragliding Camp = 365 Kilometers

The Course:

P1 Level (Beginners): This is normally a basic paragliding introduction course, where you learn some safety, theory and ground handling. The duration can be from three to four days. In this course you fly under the direct supervision of the instructors (on radio).

P2 Level (Novice): After you finish your P!, you can start your P2 paragliding course. A little more advanced take off and flying techniques like reverse launch are taught. During this course you develop altitude judgment and log in more flying time. This is when you start learning soaring through practice maneuvers. The duration is a 4 - 5 days.

Brief itinerary flow:

Day 1
On the first day the students will be introduced to the sport of paragliding. They will be introduced to the equipment, the laws of flying, how to read the landscape, the wind factor in paragliding and so on. The better half of the day will be spent in making the students understand the basics of paragliding. Then, the students will be given to handle the glider on the ground where they will get to feel the glider and its strength in the wind for the first time.

Day 2
The day will be spent ground handling. Today, the students will gear up and practice take-offs and handling the glider on the ground. They will be able to control the glider in mid air and keep it there as long as possible. They will learn how to turn the glider and if they are very good at it they might just take a short flight of about 1 minute going at a height of about 50 feet.

Day 3
Today the students will be motivated to take short flights where they can fly up to a height of more than 100 feet. This will sharpen their take-off skills and help them get better in handling the glider in mid air. They will learn how to make turn when flying. A very important day for the students.

Day 4
Today the students practice take-offs like the previous day and later move on to higher grounds and take off from there. They can get a flight of up to 3 minutes and get more time in mid air. This is a very good flying experience for the students as they get long flights and get their confidence in air.

Day 5
Today the students climb up to the top of the hill and make their long flights which can get them a flight of 5 minutes or more. They can easily climb at a height of more than 300 feet and taste a long flight. This will give an immense confidence to the students and after the course they can get the confidence of flying solo wherever possible for them.

The above itinerary is interspersed with the following possible activites.
1. Overnight jungle trek to airdeo temple, find your campsite, cook your food, pitch tents.
2. Mountain bicycling trails.
3. Kite making and flying
4. Aero-modelling (Making and flying chuck gliders)
