Ready to walk a path others shudder to tread? 

If you're game for some really serious adventure, dig your woolens and layer yourself with thermals because we're about to take you to a frozen river. Think about it, how many can boast of bringing in the New Year on the stunning Zanskar River, a tributary of the Indus in Jammu & Kashmir? 

 Here's what to expect on this trek: high altitude, icy temperatures and a place where time stands still. As the old year melts into the new, you look at life and the universe with a fresh perspective. Suddenly, life as you know it appears mundane as you gaze at a jaw-dropping sheet of ice as far as the eye can see. 

We are in Chadar - a blanket of ice - becuase it covers the entire Zanskar River during the extreme winter months of December, January and February. The beautiful Zanskar Valley can be accessed only during these months by walking on the this frozen river. Trekkers and adventure-seekers are increasingly making their way here but it's still virgin territory. 

Begin your trek at Chilling village, a four-hour drive from Leh. The trek will take you through breathtaking views of sapphire skies, crystal-clear waters running under a thick veil of ice, frozen fingers of ice creeping down mountains, mystic caves and rocky gorges. And if you're lucky, you could chance upon the notoriously reclusive snow leopard. 

While the more adventurous can trek up to Dambuchan for a home saty or opt for an overnight cave stay, back in chilling, you can bunk in a warm Ladakhi home (made of think mud blocks) and relish local delicacies like thupka and tsampo. When the clock strikes 12, ring in the New Year with the locals, who are always happy to regale visitiors with traditional songs and dance around a campfire. To make sure you don't freeze in the sub-zero tempreture, they serve gurgur-chai, a salty Ladakhi tea. And if you're brave enough to opt for a cave stay, you can cook your food inside a cave and usher in 2013 in classic back-to-nature style.

You trip  would be incomplete without sightseeing. So reserve a day to explore Chilling - meet the local ladakhi population, learn about their culture, be wowed by their architecture, and treasure hunt for their famous iron and copperware and buddha statues.

Still not sure what to do  for New Year's Eve?

You're not alone. Most of the people put off thinking about how they'll ring the new year until very last minute. For procrastinators with a bit of planning in their blood, here is a last minute New Year's Eve Travel Deal - Pack Up and Celebrate the New Year some where special!

It is in the foothills, and it has great slopes, and it rubs boundaries with the famous Jimmy Corby, yeah, the Jim Corbett National Park, the trails that the epic God roamed once.

If that wasn't enough, it overlooks the river-valley of the great river Baur. (It is not so famous, and in our work, we treat that as a great thing.) We farm like anything in this camp - all organic, all outbound, fresh veggies and stuff, and can actually harvest them for your own dinner, while you are following the trail of the elephant.

29th DEC 2012: Departure from Qutub Minar, New Delhi | 10:00PM in a Delux Luxury Car for Ramnagar, Uttranchal - 250KM

30th DEC 2012:  Arrival at the camp. Camp briefing - freshening up followed by a good hot breakfast! A short familiarization trek in the surrounding forest. Valley Crossing, Ladder Climbing.

31st DEC 2012: Early morning short walk to "Bawan Seedhi" to reach the hill top temple to have a bird eye view of the densely forested Baur Valley.

After  Lunch at the camp...take out your 21-Geared Firefox Mountain Bicycle for a small ride along gentle routes through foothill villages & farmlands with a few mildly challenging routes in the forest or go to the hidden temple inside the dense forest, explore wildlife in the dense jungles of the Corbett region.

Reach back to the camp in the evening to celebrate New Year Eve around bonfire. Now, whatever we will do is a surprise...............lets, leave it like that over here!

A New Year Eve Camping Bash - CORBETT ON WHEELS!

We are launching this trip for those who are looking for an option to celebrate Christmas & New Year eve doing adventure, camping in forest and nature based activities.

This trip aims at exploring the Jim Corbett landscape region through adventure and nature based activities. One of the focus areas will be an introduction to mountain bicycling along with short treks, night camps in the forest, adventure, farming & wildlife based modules to provide a through exposure to the Corbett landscape forest and its many facets.

The participants will ride bicycles along gentle routes through foothill villages and farmlands with a few mildly challenging routes in the forest, camp along forest streams, or near hidden old temples, explore wildlife in the dense jungles of the Corbett region.

Our trained professional instructors, meticulously planned itineraries and a deep knowledge of the region with local linkages make this a personally enriching experience.

FROZEN RIVER TREK - CHADAR

"Chadar" means blanket or veil of ice that covers the Zanskar River over the winters. This expedition style challenging trek takes one to the remote Zanskar valley which can only be penetrated in the long harsh winter months by walking on the “Chadar”- the frozen Zanskar River through the incredible Zanskar gorge with its stunning scenery and landscape. The rocks beneath the icy blue green water and ice and snow above make it look like artist’s work. The brilliant blue skies high above stand out against the brown hues of the narrow Zanskar gorge.

This trip is truly one of the world’s greatest adventure as you trek along the traditional Zanskari winter route meeting the locals and children going to School in Leh. You also get to visit the villages and stay in homes thus getting an insight into the lives of the simple Zanskari folk during the hostile winter period. The harsh climatic conditions (minus 30 c) make this trip even harder as you shuffle along the frozen river and sometime have to even wade through the icy waters or scramble over cliffs.
